Programs

Northcrest Montessori offers quality Montessori education five days a week to children 18 months to six years.

Parents may choose from the following program options that will best suit their families’ needs. Children will be placed in a Young Children’s Community classroom (18 months to three years) or a Primary classroom (three to six years).

Half-Day

Montessori Program

8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

School-Day

Montessori Program

8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

All-Day

Montessori Program

7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

All programs are offered for the academic year (August to June) and in the summer (June to August).

Included in the tuition are healthy snacks (organic and local, when available).

Children enrolled in the Primary programs (three to six years old) must be independent in the bathroom before their first day of school.

Diapers and wipes are included in the tuition for our Young Children’s Communities.

The Primary Montessori Curriculum

Ages 2½ through six years and is composed of the following areas of instruction:

Practical Life

Practical Life includes exercises in developing concentration, independence, and control of movement while providing the basis for sequencing and order. Examples of practical life include buttoning and tying exercises, pouring grains and water, hand and table washing, movement, and art.

Sensorial

Sensorial materials aim to isolate each of the five senses for the child to refine and classify. The sensorial materials set into motion the ability to think abstractly and include visual, tactile, olfactory, gustatory, auditory, and stereognostic (combining tactile and visual memory) materials. An introduction to music, geometry, algebra, and geography is also included in this area of study.

Language

Language focuses on the three areas of language: spoken language, writing, and reading. Further language study incorporates functions of words (noun, adjective, article, verb, adverb, conjunction, preposition), sentence analysis, and word study (i.e., homonyms, antonyms, compound words).

Mathematics

Mathematics covers the following concepts:

  • Numbers 1 to 10
  • Decimal system (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Teens and tens
  • Memorization of facts in each operation
  • Decimal system from 10,000 to 1,000,000
  • Fractions

The Young Children’s Community Montessori Curriculum

Ages 18 months to three years and is composed of the following areas of instruction:

Practical Life

Practical Life includes exercises in developing concentration, independence, and control of movement while providing the basis for sequencing and order. Examples of practical life in our Young Children’s Community include activities for caring for oneself (toileting independently, eating, and dressing) and caring for the environment (setting the table, washing dishes, washing windows, and dusting).

Language

Language in the Young Children’s Community focuses on spoken language. Learning new vocabulary through daily activities, singing songs, and reading books are part of the YCC curriculum.

Social Development

Students in the Young Children’s Community learn to be a part of our community. Through everyday simple grace and courtesy lessons, the children understand how to get along with their peers and the adults at our school.
